Join us to explore five of the most iconic regions of France on our new safari – starting in Paris and enjoying the best regional food and wine across Normandy, Champagne, Jura, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
On our journey, we visit three farmers markets with many tastings; two celebrated champagne houses; wine tasting in Burgundy and Bordeaux; farm visits to small producers and through our fabulous guide Valerie Henbest, we have unique access to temples of cheese including a fort with a staggering 100,000 wheels of the finest Comte.
We enjoy restaurants from the rustic to high end and are also lucky enough to have an invitation to lunch in a stylish French home for a long Sunday lunch. We’ve arranged visits to bakeries to learn about and taste local delicacies and – as always on a Gourmet Safari – a few clever surprises along the way.
Our host and guide is the dynamic Valerie Henbest, founder of Smelly Cheese Adelaide, recipient of the French National order of Agricultural Merit who will be with us all the way.
This is an exceptional safari – limited to just 16 guests. We travel by bus and fast train and stay in well situated 4-star level. Much of the tour has at 2 to 4 nights in the same accommodation, though we do have 3 single nights on the way.
Our fitness requirement is firm – we need you in great shape for this French Safari…able to wheel your bag short distances, able to put your bag into a luggage rack on the train, up for walks and standing to hear speakers walk up and down stairs (those champagne caverns!) and enjoy tastes. And generally, we need you really ready to enjoy the many magnificent experiences we’ve woven together.
The safari concludes in either Paris or Bordeaux depending on your plans.
