Event Details

Come and enjoy the absolute delights of these two incredibly beautiful islands, the wilder shores of Italy and France, each with its own highly developed food traditions and some great wines. We start in the old city of Cagliari, exploring the winding cobblestoned streets and delightful little restaurants as well as the bustling San Benedetto Market where all the stall-owners vie to make us feel welcome. We visit a local winery to taste some of the fabulous wines of the region and enjoy a cooking class using the freshest produce in season and learn how perfectly the local pasta fregola combines with sweet red prawns and plump mussels.

We stay in a charming little town on the west coast for a couple of nights and then settle into a luxury resort snuggled under huge peaks where we relax before sailing along the most perfect coastline in the world.

The journey from Sardinia to Corsica is just an hour by ferry and is one of the most spectacular entrances to a town…we sail into a secret cove to beautiful Bonifacio, with its stone ramparts and ancient town with its winding laneways and charming little squares…all looking out over clifftops and blue sea. Its breath-taking! We stay in a luxury hotel overlooking the pretty port right in the old city. We’ll explore the old town with our guide Pierre, try some local restaurants for dinner and savour the delights of a new and different island.

We’ll visit our winemaking friends who produce some exceptional wines, all grown biodynamically, for a tasting and lunch then settle into Ajaccio, the capital, and Napoleon’s birthplace. This is a city with real charm, a bustling produce market and some great Corsican food. Final night dinner at one of our favourite restaurants in a Corsican hill town which is the perfect place to catch the sunset and savour Corsican food that touches your heart.

So, best to fly into Cagliari via Rome and then depart from Ajaccio to Paris.

The Sardinia-Corsica gourmet safari was the best trip I’ve ever done! Every day had something unexpected—whether it was exploring local food markets, listening to amazing winemakers, or meeting people who truly love their food and culture. I would do another Gourmet Safari without hesitation! Leanne G.

The words that come to me when I think of my recent trip to Sardinia & Corsica on the Gourmet Safari is wow, wow, wow! The itinerary is a perfect blend of food experiences and learning about the culture and history that underpins it.
Maeve’s connection with local guides Paula and Pierre and the respectful relationship she has with them opened up so many opportunities which would be quite difficult to access if travelling on your own. Tommy our driver was an excellent driver.
I’m not a confident cook but love food and the vibe of everyone around the table, Maeve’s vivacious personality, humour and down to earth approach made each meal a delight. The Gourmet Safari exceeded my expectations and look forward to future trips.

What an amazing tour of Sardinia & Corsica! Each day trumped the previous one, whether it was a market tour, cooking demonstration or breathtaking sights. Maeve has well-established contacts at each stop, more friendships than business and her enthusiasm and energy are unmatched. Highly recommend A+ šŸ˜€

What a wonderful few weeks with our new travelling family and with our fabulous guide, Maeve. Looking back over photos to share with family & friends, I realised that we covered so much territory and experienced so many different places, wine and food. It really was an exceptional time with wonderful varied accommodation to top it off. So many experiences….V

It was a well organised food and cultural adventure made all the better by Maeve’s local knowledge and contacts at each location.
We were spoilt with amazing food every day and great accommodation at every stop. Our fellow travellers were a fun group of like minded foodies. I

How does a gift certificate work?

Our Gourmet Safaris gift certificates are valid for 12 months and can be used on any of our safaris. You can nominate part or all of the amount of a safari. Safaris range in price from $130 to $165. Bookings can then be made online or over the phone by callingĀ (02) 8969 6555Ā by the recipient using the gift certificate number.

Do I have to nominate which tour my friend receiving the certificate attends?

No – the beauty of this system is that you give your friend an inspired present and they can choose which Safari and date suits them.

Do I need to be vaccinated to do a tour?

Yes, we require all our attendees to be fully vaccinated

Can I buy gift certificates for more than one person at a time?

Of course. This often happens around Christmas and is easily done in one transaction. You will have a Continue Shopping prompt and be able to fill in details for as many as you’d like.

Why do you need my friend’s mobile number and email address?

This just makes it easier for us if you would like the certificate sent by us to the recipient with your message.

Can I change my booking?

Our terms are ā€œbookings are final at time of paymentā€ but if we receive sufficient notification we can usually make changes for you. (Obviously the more notification the better). Unfortunately if we are notified in the week leading up to the tour, we would be unable to change/cancel/transfer your booking (unless we have people on a wait list and they are able to attend). Bookings are transferrable so if you are unable to attend you can transfer the booking to someone else.

Why are Gourmet Safaris Gift certificates the perfect gift?

We find most people treasure experiences over gathering more stuff. A Gourmet Safari opens up new and delicious worlds and is always a fun day out, whether people are dedicated cooks or just love exploring new flavours and places.

Does Safaris director Maeve attend all the safaris?

As many as she can but each safari is led by experienced guides who have grown up with the food you’ll be exploring. Many live in the neighbourhoods the safaris visit which gives our tours a unique edge. You’re welcome to email or call Safaris manager Suzy to check which safaris Maeve will be attending.Ā info@gourmetsafaris.com.auĀ or 02 8969 6555.

FITNESS REQUIREMENTĀ

One of our key questions – are you fit and flexible enough to climb up a ladder from a boat to the deck?
Can you walk a couple of kilometres (largely flat in some cases) to explore a city?
Can you walk up and down steps easily?
Are you ok to walk on cobblestoned streets?
Can you lift and wheel your own bag if necessary? (we do stay in luxe but we do occasionally have unforeseen circumstances)
We need to know so we can look after you and the others in the group.
We really can’t look after guests with mobility problems or walking sticks.
If in doubt, speak with us.
