Come and enjoy the best of Portugal with our guide Fatima Nascimento who lives in central Portugal and who spent many years in Australia sharing her love and passion for the food and wine of her homeland. Fatima opened the first Portuguese restaurant in Australia in Sydney’s Surry Hills and went on to create a successful high end catering business. She and her husband Wayne moved back to the family estate to live a couple of years ago.
Our safari visits Lisbon, central Portugal, the Douro Valley and Alentejo with this inspiring woman, including sharing a day in a local produce market and then cooking on her family estate.
Her connections open many doors and you’ll explore beyond the tourist trail in some beautiful parts of the country, staying at mainly 5 star level.
This safari has no internal flights! We drive into Seville to meet our Spanish guide, acclaimed chef Frank Camorra who has just celebrated 10 years of his brilliant Movida restaurants.
Frank takes us through his home province of Andalusia, tasting the best food of the region, enjoying tapas bars and flamenco, top restaurants and wineries in Cordoba, Jerez, Cadiz and surrounds. We will have two cooking classes with Frank during our time together, both on private country estates and many opportunities to enjoy the best the region has to offer. We stay in mainly 5 star level.

Having just completed GS’s Portugal & Spain tour I feel quite privileged. Along with all the planning, research and sourcing great food experiences that go into GS tours, you can’t beat local knowledge. Fatima & Frank provided this in abundance. How else could you jump the queue for street food in Lisbon? Or score 20 front row seats at a famous flamenco bar in Jerez or at some of the most popular tapas bars in both Cordoba & Cadiz? Fatima’s generosity and hospitality at her home, show why these tours are just so special. As do the long lazy lunches cooked on farms after buying produce at local markets. These days are part of the reason Maeve’s tours stand apart from others. And of course all the behind the scenes work of Suzy. Maeve, Fatima and Frank made our adventure to Portugal & Spain one of great memories and taste sensations. DG

“Hi Maeve and Suzy, Wow what a trip – exceeded all expectations. The luxury accommodation was exceptional. The food and wine amazing. Loved the size of the group and the mix of people. Given the cost covered luxury accommodation, an abundance of delicious food and wine, cooking classes and so many “money can’t buy” experiences, with hosts Maeve, Fatima and Frank, this trip is excellent value. The passion that Fatima and Frank have elevates the experience. Frank was like a kid in a Lolly shop – the excitement at the jamon factory and the markets is very special to experience. Thank you so much 🥰🥰” Jill

It was a great safari in so many ways and right up there as one of ‘the best ever’ safaris…It is where you have foodies travelling with us that is so special. You and they take us to little places, they share their lives, open doors, fire us up with their knowledge and passion, and we see so much, learn so much, experience things we wouldn’t usually experience, visit places we wouldn’t normally see…And so much more…IT IS GREAT VALUE.
Maeve, Fatima and Frank – this sort of adventure with each of you and all of you is just so unique and so special. There is nothing else like it…
Seriously Maeve. Gourmet Safaris are unique. I could spend the rest of my life happily exploring food culture across the world with you. Your journalism background means you drill down and find the most amazing things for us to see and do. No stone unturned and always so many wonderful surprises await. It’s always in the reflection I pinch myself and think WOW how amazing was that Safari. Every time. Meg xx

Portugal and Spain with Maeve, Fatima and Frank alongside Suzy preparing our seamless progression through all stages. What fun! Everything I hoped for and more.
Another day, another adventure, another surprise. This is a great way to travel with like minded people in a comfortable bus and interesting first class accommodation at every stop. When you think this day cannot be topped there is always another ahead where there is glorious food and wine, markets, history and the generosity of people warmly welcoming us into their homes, businesses and restaurants. An ongoing tribute to our leaders. A well balanced unforgettable trip.Thank you all…Helen
