Dear Safari friends,
It’s such a joy to be writing to you again with an update on what we are planning at Gourmet Safaris. What a huge time we’ve all been through! Hope you are all in good shape and ready for adventure. I feel like a different being from where I was in March 2020 when our Vietnamese guide Peter Nguyen and I took a very special group of travellers through Vietnam. We had photos in masks as we checked in to airlines and visiting shops and marvelled at how different those precautions felt – so strange we marked it with images! Well, those masks and precautions have become all too familiar as these endless months have progressed. Like many of you, I’ve walked and sorted and tidied and enjoyed home cooking and bottles of wines and reading – oh how joyous to have a stack of books and re-read old favourites! But now it’s time to look at what we may do beyond this point. We have a limited number of safaris and spaces available this side of Christmas. Some businesses are being cautious and waiting for percentages to change…others are rip roaring to go. Don’t worry though – we will deliver the inspiring experiences you’re used to, with more safaris coming back in February. |

Victorian High Country Safari 6th to 11th March 2022 |

From one of our guests: “A quick note to say thank you so much for a wonderful time on the Victorian High Country safari. Lucky us….All the delightful producers we were able to meet and talk with was such a privilege, something you could never see travelling as an individual or with friends. You have built a fabulous network of contacts. Everyone was so passionate about their products and willing to share their stories, their talents and their lives with us. Your ‘sister’ Franca is delightful and a wonderful ambassador for herself, her family and the High Country area. A blessing for us to share so much time with her and her family.” MS
This is such a glorious visit to one of the loveliest parts of Australia…the alpine valleys of the King, Ovens and Kiewa valleys in Victoria’s High Country. It’s been described as Italy with gum trees as we spend time with extended Italian families who have settled in the area and grow wonderful wines, forage for pine forest mushrooms and create long table feasts.
Each day is a new adventure at a time of year when the weather is usually just perfect for exploring and al fresco feasts and visits to producers. Described by many of our frequent fliers as one of their favourite safaris, this is Gourmet Safaris at its best. Includes visits to hatted Provenance Restaurant; a visit to the home of acclaimed goddess of Umbrian cuisine Patricia Simone, hands on cooking class, lunch and tasting at Pizzini Wines; a glorious bocce competition, pizza demonstration and lunch at Dal Zotto Wines, visits to artists, producers, family homes and so much more.

South Australia |

8 days/7 nights of fabulousness 28th April to 5th May
Read what one our guests said about our last South Australian Safari: “Simply put……it’s just one highlight after another. Each experience is special. After the first day I was thinking that the trip had already surpassed my expectations, little did I know what the rest of the week would hold. I felt that I was in the right place at the right time. An exceptional experience with likeminded people who I think will become lifelong friends. Thank you for making my 50th birthday celebration something out of this world. The connections that Maeve is able to make with all who she meets makes for an experience you cannot replicate with anyone else. The passion, knowledge, respect, care and attention to detail is remarkable. I feel so fortunate to be part of the experience” Kim F
Come and join us for a bountiful and delicious explore through some of the best food and wine that South Australia has to offer full of “behind the secret door” experiences that Gourmet Safaris specialises in. There’s a mix of young dynamic passionate chefs, growers and winemakers for you to meet, alongside the assured brilliance of those with 30 year careers. Unpack twice – once in Adelaide in a luxurious new 4.5 star hotel in the fashionable East End, a walk to hip cafes, bars, boutiques and restaurants. Plus two nights at the exceptional Louise in the Barossa Valley, on a hill with the vines rolling out to the horizon. Enjoy visits to two acclaimed produce markets where we’ll enjoy warm welcomes and tastes curated especially for us…plus a day in lovely McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. One of many highlights – lunch in the home of our friend chef Salvatore Pepe using his wood-fired oven as seen on Food Safari Fire. In the Barossa we enjoy acclaimed restaurants and enjoy two cooking demonstrations from Matteo Carboni and Those Barossa Girls and so much more. Like all our trips, it’s got a bit of everything, nicely paced, never too much food and certainly never too little! Click here for sample itinerary |
